The Foundation for My Hope

One of the questions that many people seem to be asking is something like…

How can you be at peace and confident when you have been told something like, “You have cancer?”

My answer is that I have already been rescued by the work of Jesus.

Here is a great presentation that explains my answer with truth, beauty, and accuracy.

(And if you are interested…and have a lot more time (as in 45mins)…here is my first sermon at our church in which I taught through this Story as I understand it in the Bible.)

May the understanding of the Story of God rip through the fabric of our hearts, mind, and world.

My wife, Ashley, is telling this ongoing story from a spouse perspective  at Don’t miss it!!!

My New Turn on this Ancient Path

Photo Jun 28, 11 44 21 AMOn September 3rd/4th, God clearly redirected my path through a health crisis that revealed an undergirding reality…

I have Brain Cancer.
(My wife has been telling this story from her perspective at her blog for more details.

I post for several reasons that I want to briefly share.

#1 I want you to know that I am at peace with trusting God’s sovereign, loving, gracious, kind Hand.  While this is not a path that I volunteered for, it is perfectly in line with His work in the universe and The Story that He has been telling since the beginning, and He has not failed me for a billionth of a second.

#2 I want you to know that I feel deeply loved.  The outpouring of love towards me and my family has been so overwhelmingly, that it is impossible for me to accurately express my appreciation.  God has used many of you to lavish love on us and we are so thankful.

#3 I want you to know that I am confident in the power of God through His power to use this story for our good and His glory.  I have said those words as a part of almost every service that I have led as a pastor in the last (almost) three years, and I am confident, now to an even higher degree, that God’s loving gracious in my life is to shepherd me through circumstances that lead to my very best and His greatest fame.

It is a hard path, without a doubt.  But Everest is never summited without the journey up the mountain.  Hard…absolutely.  Worth it…without question.

So I hope that this post leaves you informed, prayerful, and encouraged that the God of the Universe is lovingly sitting on His throne and that one His beloved children (that would be me 🙂 it sitting in His lap, experiencing His shepherding, loving, kindness, graciousness, teaching, and ministry in my very core.

I love you and, Lord willing, I will share with you what I experience as I can, that you may be encouraged and God my receive His rightly deserved fame.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  – 1 Peter 1:3-7
